What do you want to hear from President Obama on Tuesday night? Do you support sending in the 35,000 additional troops that is being reported as his decision? Do you think the president should lay out a timeline for withdrawing troops in the region? Do you want to know how he plans to pay for the escalation of troops?

After watching much of the president's speech and some of the chatter afterwards I have to say that I am not surprised by what he had to say. While I do not agree with sending more troops to Afghanistan I do like that there is at least a definite date that withdrawal will begin although it is not a definite that ALL the troops will eventually be withdrawn it was implied. I think that the president made the only reasonable choice for a president wishes to be re-elected. He did not give up on the war immediately, but did give a date for beginning the withdrawal. I wish the withdrawal began today. People are being killed and I hate that, but overall I am reasonably happy with the president’s decision. No matter what the feelings about the decision Barack Obama is a great orator!
ReplyDeleteWell it is now Wednesday and I'm still not so sure as to what happened last night, from Michelle I have gathered that Obama will be sending more troops over. What I would have like to have heard was something along with lines of, we will send only the amount of troops that are needed to be sent with all troops being pulled out by a certain time. I think a timeline would be a great idea if a timeline always worked. Therefore I would say the goal would be to have all troops out by such and such date. As a family member I've had to deal with two deployments myself and there were easy, and its simply not right for some people to have to be deployed for a third time, thats too far!
ReplyDeleteAl qaeda is regaining strength in Afghanistan. Plus they're gaining presence in Pakistan (which has nukes). Something's gotta be done about them. If 35,000 troops will do it, then do it.
